OVERVIEW

Hearing Impaired (Deaf) Students often face problems in understanding and using the available information in an appropriate manner. Therefore, to help these students access information adequately, an e-learning environment developed and designed to meet the needs of deaf students by adding or enhancing sign language features in the e-learning environment.

E-learning App Designed with a vision that used Technology included both Acadamic Knowledge and Sign Language by Creating self learning environment to overcome difficulties in tradition learning methods.

OUR KEY CHALLANGES

Only 387 schools are actually trying to provide teaching and learning through sign language procedures.
Qut of 3 lakh severe hearing impaired students, these schools serve less than 1.5 lakh.
One of the biggest challenges to teaching and learning to deaf students is the lack of sign language interpreters.
In India, 379 interpreters have obtained certification; however, only 242 of them are employed in fields serving the hearing-impaired (ISLRTC, Directory).
Lack of sign knowledge among parents to know about the educational achievement level of children with Hearing Impaired.

Purpose Of Aim

Laying a foundation for a new era for Hearing Impaired students to learning continuously, enable them easily interact with one another, and easily communicate with teachers by integrating sign language into an effective e-Learning platform.

Mission

To provide an e-learning app to hearing-impaired children, so that they can gain equity in education and instill confidence in becoming productive members of society.

To support hearing-impaired students to promote their overall development through engaging eye-catching videos with Sign Language in academic subjects.

It is particularly helpful, as the e-learning app provides academic English reading and writing skills to HI students, enabling them to become masters in science and math studies.

Hearing Impaired students Enrollment in India, 2020-21 (UDISE+)

The total enrollment of Children with Special Needs in 2021-22 is 22.67 lakh, a rise from 21.91 lakh in 2020-21, representing a 3.45 percent increase over 2020-21. Out of these a total of 2.3 lakh hearing-impaired students are continuing their education in both the schools of inclusive and exclusive.

Approximately, 1.8 lakh hearing impaired students needed special schools but only 1.2lakh children are getting school education in the exclusive hearing impaired school. Only about 15-20% of schools are providing education in proper sign language which was designed by ISLRTC (Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre).

Education at Glance: Persons with Disabilities in India

The age group 10-19 (School age) years has the highest number of disabled people (46.2 lakhs). 17% of the disabled population is between the ages of 10 and 19, and 16% is between the ages of 20 and 29. At the national level, the elderly (60+ years) disabled made up 21% of the total disabled.

"There are 5533 special schools in total where children with disabilities are enrolled. Only 300+ of these schools are specifically designed for children with hearing impairment (DEAF)"
